Am I the only one who is sick of the C7?

I’ve come to the conclusion that perhaps there is something wrong with me.

That’s the only logical explanation.

The C7 Corvette does actually nothing for me. At all.

So, I have to ask, what is it that I’m missing? Yes, it has a great drivetrain. I get that. The design is kinda meh to me. But even if it had a fantastic design, I’m not sure I would even care. Maybe getting older has sucked the car-loving soul out of me. Right now I’m more interested in someone coming out with a small pickup, or the next fun to drive hatchback.
Maybe I don’t care because I can’t afford a C7. Maybe that’s it? Maybe it’s just media over-saturation? Every damn car mag I get in the mail has it on the cover. If I see another article about the C7 I might just scream.

I kinda feel the same way about the '15 Mustang...I mean it seems like a nice car and all but I'm just not into it.

Maybe you left these at the Starbucks?

I know what you mean though. Overhype can sometimes subtract points in my eyes. It's like being told how good a movie is over and over, only to watch it and it can't possibly live up to expectations at that point.

Have you seen one in person? Because each time I see one, it's like... a re-affirmation of the fact that American cars have really arrived.

Agreed. GM had this one at our school's career fair and it was almost humbling to be in the presence of a new standard for performance cars, not to mention because it was jaw-droppingly gorgeous.

Go see one in person. Mega boner.

Then when you start feeling this way again, go dive one. Mega-mega boner.

I am totally withholding my judgement of the car until I see it in person. I have seen a few previous gen Mustangs around town that looked 10x better then any online material, and conversely, after seeing the Tesla Model S in person, that thing is far nicer looking online than in person.

I'm not a huge fan, it's bland but not beige. I'm sure I'll change my mind once I go see/sit in one, but I have a feeling that just like the current mustang, it will go back to being a very "meh" car again.

What's funny is I've seen more than one in person. I saw one in the parking lot the other day and walked up to it. I mean it looked pretty nice, but not what I think all the hype is about.

Hell, I still think the C5 is a better looking design than the C7. But, I know I'm in the minority here.

Honestly I think it's pretty neat. I think there is a lot of pride surrounding the "comeback" of American automakers and C7 is kind of at the center of that. For a lot of fans of american muscle, this car might have "filled a void". Perhaps the void the new Viper didn't quite fit into.

I think that's what makes certain cars more loved than others. That they come out on the market at the right time when people are hungry for them, rather than being amazeballs cars on their own. The Toyobaru twins kind of did the same trick.

I'm in the same boat as you are, only with the F-type instead. It's just not a car that I felt any need for. Aston has fed me cars like that for a good 15 years now. They are tasty and I am quite full at this point.

I'm totaly with you on the '15 Mustang also. What's funny is I like the artist renderings better than the acutal Ford Design, particularily the headlights. The actual Ford version just doesn't look right.

I LOVE the current look of the '14 Mustang. Its just straight up badass looking.

Honest question. Are you not a fan of the movement toward the modern supercar/hypercar appearance? I'm quite serious. Because the C7, to me, looks like it was designed by some high end Italian/Euro design house. And is a performance car first and a Corvette second. Which, IMO, is the first time this has happened since the C2.

I truly don't mean to flip, and I'm not calling you out on anything (I'm the guy who a couple of days ago admitted that the car I would date would be a Volvo Amazon wagon, and I was being 100% serious, the Amazon wagon is dead sexy to me), but if it doesn't appeal to you, it's a matter of personal taste, and everyone varies on that. And it is valid.

I'm just curious how you feel about other modern cars.

Maybe you just aren't interested in a sports coupe?

I mean, it doesn't have to do it for you. I like sports coupes as well as hatchbacks, and this is an especially good one, and it looks the business in person.

Nothing really excites me from any of the design houses. I haven't liked a Lambo since the Diablo, and can't even tell you the last Ferarri I thought was a striking design.
I'm trying to rack my brain to think of something recent that I really like the design of (super/hypercar wise) and I'm coming up blank.

Then again, I might not be the best of judges on these things. I owned a Nissan cube, and enjoyed it (aside from the fact it was like driving a sofa). And my current vehicle is an Orange Crosstrek.

Thanks. I understand to a degree, I don't agree, but I do know where you are coming from. Personally, I think that there are a few recent-ish cars which give the classics a serious run for their money, but only a few.

I think that the McLaren P1 redefines what a supercar should look like, I believe that the Aston Martin Zagato V12 is the sexiest road going vehicle designed in the last 30 years, just beating out the Alfa Romeo 8c Compitizione. And the new Jaguar F-type takes Jag back to the days when people bought Jaguars because they were headturners that performed as well as they looked.

But a lot of other cars leave me thinking that they look like a derivative of something else. And the C7 is no different, but the cars that it has targeted... are all high end, exotic, high performance vehicles. And it has targeted them correctly, taken styling cues, set performance marks and does it for a fraction of the cost. So, for what it is, I seriously appreciate it. But I can't separate looks from function, and the C7 is very functional, especially in terms of it's design. So holistically, I love it.

Time to put on my flame suit...
I hate corvettes. I've never liked them; not in the past, not now and probably won't in the future. Don't get me wrong, if I spot a C7 I'll take a minute to gawk at it but I wouldn't be caught dead owning one. I do appreciate a good car, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
And before anyone asks, I've seen three in the wild. One at a FSAE competition in Michigan before they went on sale, one while driving through Texas, and most recently I was next to one for a bit while spending time in College Station.

It's just like when a new song comes out on the radio. Everyone plays it far too often for a while, until the next big song comes out. After that, you will get back to liking it again. No need to medicate.

I saw one in person. The front is beautiful.

The rear end is still awkward. Super mega ultra awkward. "The Aztek guy wasn't kept in an asylum?" awkwarrd. The way the 3/4 window points into the trunk opening when the rear hatch is up is pretty awkward, too.

c2 corvette is awesome (not cause we own one) . I think a lot of corvettes are respectable sports cars and awesome for american made cars, however I do feel that their lack of a real american competitors has allowed the corvette to stymie a bit. Theres a lot of other cars that are cool but for the price for a new car, not much competes.
